Al has been intrigued by poetry and words that rhyme since childhood. Once he was introduced to the children’s poem, “Roses are red and violence are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you” seemed to sow the seed that now captivates his desire to write these poetic verses. What has developed over the years, through the number of situations he has encountered as a hospital chaplain, is contained in the healing poetic verses and how these verses capture the interest of others. He has shared his poetry with numerous hospice patients and their family members while making chaplain visits. The reactions he continues to observe has yet again, opened the door for sharing his poetry with the world. When Al reads the poems, he has written, he often becomes tearful realizing that the words on the page are there because of the Divine inspiration he continues to receive while writing. Recently, one of his hospice patients took the time to offer encouragement that his poems needed to be published. There have been numerous patients offering the same encouragement. It is Al’s desire that sharing these poems with the world will help to build the bridge for those who suffer physical and emotional distress.
